Introduction

This guide provides an introduction to some commonly-used generative AI tools and advice on how you can explore and utilize them appropriately. By understanding how these tools work and their limitations, you can effectively make use of their capabilities while avoiding potential pitfalls.

What is Generative AI?

Generative AI refers to artificial intelligence systems that can create new content such as images, text, audio and video. These systems, powered by machine learning techniques like neural networks, can generate novels, artworks, music and other creative works that are almost indistinguishable from human-generated content.

Library support for generative AI tools

Consensus is an AI-powered tool designed to help students and researchers quickly summarize and understand scholarly papers. The search engine uses natural language processing techniques to analyze and extract key information from research articles, providing concise summaries and highlighting important points.


 

Scite, a tool that helps you discover and assess articles. Its beta feature, Scite Assistant, lets you ask questions and receive generated responses with embedded references, displaying the citations and links.


Scopus AI is Elsevier's tool that uses artificial intelligence to enhance academic research by providing smart search, trend analysis, paper recommendations, and citation insights across Scopus database.
