Template for Liaison Librarians to create subject guides

Note to Liaison Librarians

Information for Liaison Librarians:

Content

  • The template adopts a pedagogical design (i.e. focused on teaching the student to do things) rather than a traditional pathfinder (i.e. lists of useful information resources). While liaisons are free to make changes and additions, please try to adhere to this philosophy as far as possible.
  • The content used in the template is necessarily generic. Liaisons are expected to customize the text to fit the needs of their discipline. You should also feel free to add or delete content as appropriate.
  • Presenting students with comprehensive lists of relevant resources (e.g. databases) may be overwhelming for them. When compiling lists of recommended sources, target providing three links, and no more than five links at most.

Design and Layout

  • For consistency, tabbed navigation must be used on all subject guides.
  • A 2-column 83/17 ratio layout is used on the guide homepage, with the narrow column used to display the liaison librarian profile.
  • Other pages default to a one-column layout, but you may also adopt a 2-column 83/17 ratio layout on other pages.
  • Again, for consistency please avoid using other layouts in your subject guide.
  • The default font for all guides is Lucida Sans Unicode size 14.

General notes

  • Keep text to a minimum.
  • You are encouraged to use graphical content (photos, infographics) wherever possible.
  • Remember to customize / remove text marked in [red] from your guide :-)
