The Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC) is an organisation associated with the Association of Research Libraries, which promotes awareness of issues in academic publishing and research.
Apart from providing numerous resources for academic authors, SPARC tracks research on academic publishing trends.
As of summer 2015, 65% of studies show papers, which have an Open Access version, are cited more frequently.
In other words, when you publish your article---thinking about how to deposit an Open Access version in a repository is worthwhile!
The Library can help you determine how to do this according to your publisher's policies
