Meet Your New University Librarian

Ken CrillyAs your new University Librarian, it is my great pleasure to write this first post for our brand new HKBU Library blog. My first day at HKBU was November 1, and since then I have been busy meeting with faculty, administrators, and staff members from within the Library and across the University. As I settle into my new position, I also look forward to engaging directly with students at the earliest opportunity. Every day that I have been here, I have been inspired by the dedication and hard work of the amazing Library staff, by the wide array of physical and electronic materials that form our rich research collections, and by the impressive range of services and programming that the Library offers throughout the year. I am truly humbled to be leading this wonderful library, and it is my hope that every member of the HKBU community makes the Library an essential partner in their study, teaching, and research activities.

For a little background about me, not only am I new to HKBU, I am also new to Hong Kong and to Asia. I grew up in the rural central part of the United States, in the area that is called the Upper Midwest. Until earlier this year I was an Associate University Librarian at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. I began my library career in the field of music, but for the past several years I have been engaged more broadly in the areas of library services to users, sharing resources and collections between institutions, and assessment practices that tell us how the library is being used and what we might do to enhance the experiences of users.

My Library colleagues and I hope that you will return often to the HKBU Library blog. In future posts, a variety of staff members will highlight various aspects of the library, from programs to services to collections to their own research and activities. The blog will provide a platform for slightly longer and behind-the-scenes information about the Library. And for shorter, more frequent news about the Library, be sure to follow us on Facebook. I look forward to seeing many of you in our Library.
